Incidence of Posterior Capsule Rupture in Cataract Surgeries and its Association with Age and Hypertension

Background and objectives: Cataract is common in aging populations, causes blurry vision. Once it interferes with daily activity, treated surgically may lead to complications such as posterior capsule rupture (PCR). The present study aims calculate the rate of PCR determine its correlation age hypertension. Methods: This retrospective was conducted between 31st August, 2016 30th December, 2018 at Department Ophthalmology, King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH), Bahrain. A total 458 Bahraini patients, including 199 (43.5%) women 259 (56.5%) men a mean 66.2 ± 9.186 years (S.D.), were studied. Data from medical records theater logbook depicted two types procedures, phacoemulsification extracapsular-cataract-extraction (ECCE), which performed by single surgeon. analyzed using SPSS (Version 26.0). Results: Of patients studied, 7 (1.5%) developed complications. Out these who complications, 4 (0.8%) cases no vitreous loss. On analysis, significant risk factor for above 60 (P=0.05), whereas hypertension not (P=0.760) developing complication. Conclusion: Low rates reported this study.
